Message from Jim at Montague Bicycles UK
For many people, small-wheeled folders are the perfect answer to their commuting woes. But for others they are a compromise in terms of cycling enjoyment and efficiency.
There is, however, an alternative; a range of full-size foldable bikes with a strong, simple folding mechanism that doesn't affect the structural integrity of the main frame tubes. Bikes that feel great to ride and yet still offer the versatility of compact storage and easy transportation.
- There are usually fewer folding points (no Origami required!)
- They provide a stiffer ride
- Larger wheels provide extra dampening from road shocks
- Larger wheels ‘track’ in a straighter line than smaller wheels
- Everything else is usually full-size – and standard
- There are more components available for upgrades or add-ons
- There’s no embarrassment in riding one!
Why a Montague or Swissbike?
- None of the main frame tubes are cut, so structural integrity is not compromised
- They use a clever, patented concentrus folding system rather than the more traditional ‘hinges’ which are prone to becoming worn/looser over time
- Built-in safety features mean the frame can never fold whilst being ridden, even if the frame lock is left undone.
- CLIX technology as standard on the front wheel Q/R means that the wheel will not drop out – even if the Q/R clamp is left undone.
- They have correct cycle geometry
- They have all the ride qualities of a rigid (non-folding) bike
- They use all industry-standard components, serviceable at any bike shop
- They can be easily upgraded and accessorised without the need for expensive proprietary parts
Montague are now supplying the Police, local Councils and St. John Ambulance with our bikes, as they have all recognised the versatility they offer over regular, rigid-framed bikes.
